Judgement tarot card meaning

Judgement

What the card shows

An angel blows a trumpet from the clouds, a flag with a red cross hanging from it. Below, people rise from open coffins floating on the water, a man, a woman and a child, their arms raised towards the sound. Mountains stand in the distance. It is a picture of being called, and of answering.

Judgement upright

Judgement is the card of a reckoning that frees you. It describes looking squarely at your past, accepting it, and answering a call to something new. Upright, it can mark a turning point where you see clearly what your life has been and what you want it to become. It favours honest self-assessment over blame, and decisive change over drifting.

Keywords: reckoning, awakening, a calling, renewal

Judgement reversed

Reversed, the call has been heard and not answered, or the judgement has turned harsh. You may be doubting yourself so severely that no choice feels safe, or avoiding a decision you know is due. The card asks you to judge yourself as fairly as you would judge a friend, and then to act.

Keywords: self-doubt, an unanswered call, harsh self-judgement

In love

In love, Judgement can describe an honest reckoning: forgiving, being forgiven, or seeing a relationship clearly for the first time. It can also be about someone from the past returning to mind. Reversed, it points at old resentments that keep reopening, and suggests closing them properly.

At work

At work, this card suits a sense of calling, a review of where you are heading, or a decision to change direction. It favours agreement between your work and your values. Reversed, it suggests that fear of what others will think is holding back a move you are ready to make.

When you are deciding

When deciding, Judgement asks what the person you want to become would choose. Look back at what your past choices have taught you. Then decide with that knowledge, rather than repeating the old pattern out of habit.
