Minor Arcana - Wands

Knight of Wands tarot card meaning

Knight of Wands

What the card shows

A knight in armour, his tunic patterned with salamanders and his helmet topped with a red plume, rides a rearing horse across the desert. He holds a wand up in one hand. Pyramids stand behind him. Horse and rider both look as if stopping is not part of the plan.

Knight of Wands upright

The Knight of Wands is the card of bold action. It describes passion, charm and the willingness to charge at something new. Upright, it favours going after what you want with confidence and a bit of daring. It suits travel, adventure and any situation where hesitation would cost you the moment.

Keywords: action, adventure, passion, boldness

Knight of Wands reversed

Reversed, the charge has no direction. It can describe recklessness, a temper, or starting with great enthusiasm and leaving before the work is done. It can also describe frustration at being held back. The card asks whether the speed is serving the goal, or only the excitement.

Keywords: impulsiveness, recklessness, unfinished starts

In love

Passion and excitement, a magnetic person, a whirlwind romance. The card suits enjoying the thrill. Reversed, it can describe someone who arrives fast and leaves fast, and asks for actions as well as heat.

At work

Bold moves, pitching hard, taking on a challenge others avoid. The card favours confidence. Reversed, it warns against acting before thinking, and suggests checking the details before you commit.

When you are deciding

If you know what you want and the downside is manageable, go. The Knight of Wands favours action. If the choice cannot be undone, slow the horse down long enough to look.
