Six of Swords tarot card meaning

What the card shows
A ferryman poles a small boat across the water. In it sit a hooded woman and a child, their backs to us, with six swords standing upright in the boat. The water on one side is choppy; ahead, towards the far shore, it is smooth. They are leaving, quietly.
Six of Swords upright
The Six of Swords is the card of moving away from difficulty towards something calmer. The journey may be sad and the luggage heavy, but the water ahead is smoother. Upright, it describes transition: leaving a hard situation, travelling or recovering. It favours accepting help on the way.
Keywords: transition, moving on, leaving difficulty, calmer water
Six of Swords reversed
Reversed, the boat is stuck. It can describe feeling unable to leave a difficult situation, carrying old troubles into the new place, or a move that keeps being delayed. The card asks what is holding you back, and which of those swords you could leave on the shore.
Keywords: resistance to change, unfinished business, a delayed move
In love
Moving on from a painful relationship, or a couple moving through a hard time together towards calmer days. Reversed, it can describe unresolved feelings travelling with you.
At work
Changing jobs, relocating, leaving a stressful situation. The card favours the move. Reversed, it suggests addressing what went wrong so it does not follow you.
When you are deciding
Ask which option takes you towards calmer water, even if the crossing is uncomfortable. The Six of Swords supports leaving, and asks you to pack only what you need.
