Wheel of Fortune tarot card meaning

What the card shows
A great wheel turns in the sky, marked with letters and alchemical symbols. A snake slides down its left side, a jackal-headed figure rises up its right, and a sphinx holding a sword sits calmly on top. In the four corners, a winged figure, an eagle, a lion and a bull read from open books among the clouds.
Wheel of Fortune upright
The Wheel of Fortune is the card of change you do not fully control. Things turn: good spells end, and so do bad ones. Upright, it often marks a turning point, a moment when circumstances shift and what was stuck starts to move. The card does not say the change is good or bad. It asks you to notice it, and to act on what the new position makes possible.
Keywords: change, cycles, timing, turning points
Wheel of Fortune reversed
Reversed, the wheel is still turning while you hold on to the old position. It can describe a run of bad luck, or a pattern that keeps repeating because nothing in the approach has changed. The card is not a sentence. It asks what you have been doing each time the wheel came round, and what would differ if you tried something else.
Keywords: resisting change, a run of bad luck, repeating patterns
In love
In love, the Wheel can describe a relationship entering a new phase, or a chance meeting that changes things. Timing matters here more than effort. Reversed, it may point at the same argument coming round again, and asks what each of you could do differently this time.
At work
At work, this card marks a change in circumstances: a restructure, a new manager, a market moving. Some of it is outside your control. What is inside it is how quickly you adapt. Reversed, it suggests looking for the pattern in setbacks rather than treating each one as fresh bad luck.
When you are deciding
When deciding, the Wheel asks whether this is the right moment, not only the right choice. Some options are better taken now; others will still be there next season. If you feel pushed, ask what has actually changed, and whether that change is permanent.
