Ace of Cups tarot card meaning

What the card shows
A hand comes out of a cloud holding a golden cup. A white dove flies down towards it with a small disc in its beak, and five streams of water spill over the rim into a pond of water lilies below. Drops fall everywhere. The cup is fuller than it can hold.
Ace of Cups upright
The Ace of Cups is the beginning of a feeling: love, tenderness, compassion or joy arriving with more force than you expected. Upright, it describes an open heart and the willingness to let something in. It can mark a new relationship or friendship, or simply a time when you feel more than usual. The card treats that overflow as a gift.
Keywords: new feelings, love, compassion, emotional openness
Ace of Cups reversed
Reversed, the cup is tipped or held shut. Feelings may be bottled up, unexpressed or poured out without anything coming back. It can also describe a heart closed after a hurt, protecting itself by feeling less. The card does not demand openness from you. It asks where you could let a little more in, safely.
Keywords: held-back feelings, emptiness, love turned inward
In love
A new love, a deepening of affection, or a moment of real emotional connection. This is one of the most loving cards in the deck. Reversed, it can describe feelings you have not admitted, to the other person or to yourself.
At work
Work that you care about, a caring profession, a team with genuine warmth. The card favours bringing heart to what you do. Reversed, it points at feeling emotionally drained by work, and suggests noticing what refills you.
When you are deciding
Ask how each option makes you feel, not only what it gets you. The Ace of Cups treats feelings as real information. Choose the path that keeps your heart open rather than the one that needs you to switch it off.
