Nine of Cups tarot card meaning

What the card shows
A well-fed man sits on a bench with his arms folded and a broad, satisfied smile. Behind him, nine golden cups stand in a curved row on a shelf draped with blue cloth. He looks very pleased with how things have turned out.
Nine of Cups upright
The Nine of Cups is often called the wish card. It describes contentment, pleasure and the satisfaction of having what you wanted. Upright, it favours enjoying the good things in your life without guilt. It also asks whether the satisfaction is deep, or mostly on the surface.
Keywords: contentment, satisfaction, a wish granted, pleasure
Nine of Cups reversed
Reversed, the wish is unfulfilled or turned sour. It can describe getting what you wanted and finding it empty, or indulging so much that the pleasure fades. It can also describe smugness. The card asks what would actually satisfy you, rather than what you thought would.
Keywords: smugness, unfulfilled wishes, excess
In love
Happiness, a wish fulfilled, a relationship that feels good. The card suits enjoying it. Reversed, it can describe a relationship that looks perfect from outside and feels hollow within.
At work
Success, recognition, a goal reached. The card favours enjoying the achievement and thanking the people who helped. Reversed, it points at success that has not brought the satisfaction you expected.
When you are deciding
Ask which option you would still be glad of in a year, not only next week. The Nine of Cups favours lasting contentment over a quick pleasure.
