Nine of Swords tarot card meaning

What the card shows
A person sits up in bed in the dark with their face in their hands. Nine swords hang in rows on the black wall behind. The quilt is covered with roses and astrological symbols. Nobody else is there, and the swords do not touch the sleeper at all.
Nine of Swords upright
The Nine of Swords is the card of the night when worry takes over. It describes anxiety, sleeplessness and fears that feel overwhelming in the dark. Upright, it acknowledges how real that feels. It also notices that the swords are on the wall, not in the bed: many of these fears are about what might happen, not what is happening. Talking to someone often shrinks them.
Keywords: anxiety, worry, sleeplessness, fear
Nine of Swords reversed
Reversed, the night is ending. It can describe relief, facing a fear and finding it smaller, or reaching out for support at last. It can also describe worry that has been kept secret for too long. The card asks you to tell someone you trust what keeps you awake.
Keywords: relief, facing fears, reaching out
In love
Worry about a relationship, fear of rejection, or guilt that keeps you up. The card asks you to separate fears from facts. Reversed, it describes relief through an honest conversation.
At work
Work stress, fear of failure, lying awake over a deadline. The card favours sharing the load or asking for help. Reversed, it points at worries easing once they are faced.
When you are deciding
Do not make the decision at three in the morning. The Nine of Swords suggests writing the worry down, sleeping on it, and looking again in daylight.
